Our Staff

Our coaching staff consists of former high school, college and pro basketball players who know how to teach the game and communicate effectively with children and young adults.  Knowing the tremendous impact a coach and teacher can have on a child, Mo’ Motion founder and executive director Maureen Holohan fills her staff with outstanding role models and hard-working professionals.

Meet our team below or check out the following links to learn more about coaching, volunteering, and participating on the GBA and Impact Task Forces.

  • Coaches – Volunteer
  • Administrative Support
  • GBA Task Force
  • Impact Task Force

Our coaches must prove through training and observation that they are capable of teaching children and young adults. They also must understand that the best early indicator of long-term success and happiness in life is heart and effort. Most of all, coaches must be able to teach children and remind other coaches, parents, and adults of the life lessons that can be learned through sports.

Mo’ Motion coaches conduct training sessions that begin with a series of stretches and exercises recommended by the most qualified sports doctors and therapists to protect against common sports-related injuries. Drills are performed to improve basketball skills that evolve into various contests promoting camaraderie and teamwork. Sessions conclude with demanding physical workouts to elevate stamina, fitness, and self-confidence.

After several months of training and evaluation, players are placed on teams based on age and skill. The teams are entered in the Gotham Basketball Association to play against teams from different neighborhoods throughout New York City. The GBA emphasizes inclusiveness, community, preparation, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
