The fall of 2021 looks like it could have some bumps and hurdles in regards to the pandemic. We are committed to following CDC guidelines and local regulations. Mo’ Motion has reported ZERO cases of spread within our workouts because we are 1) outside and 2) masked.
Fall 2021 Plans & Protocols
Please note that we are going to maintain our training outdoors mostly at West 76th/Riverside Park and near to these courts until we see what the Delta variant brings this fall. Outdoor, masked play for all kids under 12 years old this fall. Players 12&UP – we are outdoor optional masks until we can secure indoor gym space and/or outside league play where other programs can host. Players must show proof of vaccination to play indoors. Once we secure indoor space, weeknight and weekend programs will move indoors to gyms on the UWS. Weekday after-school programs 3:30-5pm will remain outdoors.
Several teams and programs are playing outside (and inside) unmasked now. We feel strongly that our 12&UP players who are fully vaccinated can take the option of wearing masks (unless regulations change), but our participants under age 12 must remain masked. All Mo’ Motion coaches are fully vaccinated and submitted proof of vaccination.
NYC is not allowing for the rental of public school gyms until we have more info on the Delta variant and we are guessing they’re pausing until children 12&under can get fully vaccinated. Therefore we are outside as a starting point for fall, and we hope to receive word on gym space and vaccinations for kids under 12 soon.
The CDC also has reported on the extremely low incidence of spread outdoors and its current stance on masks is as follows:
To maximize protection from the Delta variant and prevent possibly spreading it to others, wear a mask indoors in public if you are in an area of substantial or high transmission.
Please note that we are going to maintain our training outdoors mostly at West 76th/Riverside Park and near to these courts until we see what the Delta variant brings this fall. In basketball, we move up and down quite a bit with plenty of outdoor ventilation.
The Notre Dame football outbreak last fall is a good example of the efficacy of masks and outdoor play – there were NO cases even with the players breathing on each other intermittently during drills for weeks. When the team went inside for a meal (dropped their masks and guards), they had their first outbreak.
