Get Out & Play!

Mo’ Motion Celebrates 10 Years By Giving Back to Riverside Park

Who we are: Mo’ Motion is a non-profit organization that believes in giving back to our community.  For our 10-year anniversary, this year we are giving back to where we started with a small group of grades 2-4 players and a team of grade 7 boys on the Riverside/West 76th Street courts. We want all kids to have the opportunity to get out and play in a fun, safe environment!  Mo’ Motion alum Ema Schumer also wrote this great piece in Our Town on how much playing pick-up basketball meant to her as a youth growing up in New York City.

What we are doing: We are working to improve the courts at West 76th Street by replacing 7 rims and boards and painting the courts. This will complement the already planned renovation projects which are scheduled.  These plans include an exercise equipment corner and new water fountain.

Our Parks Our Kids

How you can help: We need schools, individuals and businesses to support this project.

Bonus: We are also setting up regular volunteer days where we partner with NYC Dept of Recreation and Riverside Conservatory to clean up – more details TBD.

Goal for Phase 1: We need to raise $24,780.  This includes replacement of the rims, nets and backboards at W 76th Street.

As of OCT 17, we are $6,180 short of Phase 1 goals. Please help us give kids a safe and fun place to get out and play!

Goal for Phase 2:  We have submitted a request for the asphalt resurfacing to be done with discretionary funding by the city council via  Helen Rosenthal’s office.  We do hope in time they will approve of the funding and replace the asphalt as well.

What to do:

STEP 1:  Go to the Riverside Conservancy donation link and remember to put W 76th ST Basketball courts on the blank line asking where you’d like the funds directed so that your donation goes specifically toward this project.

STEP 2:  In addition, this is optional if you want to remain anonymous, but we’d love to have your contact info as well so that we can put you on the list of motion members, friends of Mo’ Motion, neighbors and schools who chipped in to make this project a success.

DONATE HERE! Be sure to put W 76th St Basketball Courts on your donation!  Also please forward this link so others can contribute!

Add your name/info here so we can follow up with our own personal TY and before/after photos plus our volunteer work!

These courts and kids who want a safe, clean, fun place to play need our help and attention (scroll down to see the current state of the courts).

Thank you for joining us in this effort and for telling others about our community service project.

Follow along on our blog for updates to the projects! Once we have enough funds for five hoops we will order them and get ready for install. The timeline goal for this is July 15th. We’d love to have the surface patching and painting completed by fall in time for a celebration!

Volunteer for park cleanup projects this summer!
