IMPACT Task Force

Mo’ Motion is dedicated to making a difference in our communities through what we do on the courts and what we do in the communities where we play.  As a 501(c)3 non-profit, we aim to positively influence youth, focusing on academic excellence, sports opportunities and physical fitness, and the promotion of an inclusive environment for boys and girls.  In addition to our hosting and supporting The Gotham Basketball Association for 11 years, we have raised money to renovate public courts, engaged in park-clean up efforts, led clothing and shoe drives and provided gifts for players and programs in need.

Mo’ Motion serves 600-1,000 players grades K-10 annually in the upper east, upper west and Harlem sections of Manhattan.   We take great pride in opening our doors to young players of all experience levels then helping to streamline their development if they have the desire and ability to play in high school and college.  Our players, staff and parents have played instrumental roles in supporting our efforts to be socially responsible.  Here is a year-by-year summary of what we’ve done since our start in 2009.  If you would like to volunteer or be on our staff, please click here.

2020 –

Making an IMPACT with the Cubs

For eight seasons, Mo’ Motion has been the proud source of motivation and support for girls grades 3-5 who want to learn how to play hoops and be part of a team.  This year we decided to add two boys’ teams as well, given the popularity and demand to play by the boys, especially since the school moved into a brand new building with a beautiful gym right down the street. Read more here about their journey, challenges, and successes!

Support Our Goals

In order to reach these goals and provide needed opportunities to youth who are too often left in the margins, we need community and business support. Please see our Donations page to learn how you can help. We also need volunteer assistance to help support our programs and ensure that all youth in our communities have access to quality opportunities.

Good Will Pick-Up & Delivery to the Bronx

Mo’ Motion crew supports families in need living in the Bronx!

Community ServiceWe knew we needed to share our support to other areas of New York where our neighbors are struggling, so we reached out to our supporters in early November, 2020. Mo’ Motion volunteers practiced social distancing and collected new and gently used sporting equipment, clothing, and sneakers from doorsteps of donors on Saturday, December 5th.

THANK YOU to all who donated and to our drivers Angela, Ya-Ting and, Joseph Duran for making the run to the Bronx. These awesome donations landed in the hands of WHEDco and Black Lives Matter of Greater New York where they will make sure that youth in need get access to them.

Peer Support Initiative with Amazon Wish List

Help WHEDcoWe encourage our Mo’ Motion players and friends to support our neighbors in the Bronx who love sports and are in need of clothing, sports equipment, and basic necessities.  WHEDco, a non-profit serving the Bronx, provided us with a list of needs for their players and students via an Amazon wish list (open until December 13, 2020).  Many of the students in WHEDco’s programs are struggling with housing challenges, food shortages, and refills of school supplies at this time.

We encouraged our families and support by shopping from this Amazon Wish List – an easy way to give back during the pandemic when social distancing is in place. The items are directly delivered to WHEDco, and from there they are wrapped and delivered to youth in need in the Bronx. Thank you to all of our families who have been participating!
